When you are an entrepreneur you have a lot of responsibilities. You have to develop a business model, manage a team, and provide leadership in times of success and failure. And that’s just naming a few. There will come a time when many pots of coffee will not help you from hitting a wall.

Sometimes all it takes is a few tips to motivate someone to be a better entrepreneur. So, I’m here to give you 5 tips that will hopefully give you a fresh approach and boost your creativity.

1. Be Productive, Not Busy

There is a difference between getting things done and working on things just to say that you are busy. If you work a 12 hour day but can’t identify what you accomplished, did you really work for 12 hours? Here are three ways to accomplish tasks instead of just “doing stuff.”

  • Make a list of priorities and assign them by 1, 2 and 3. Finish priority one before you start other tasks.
  • Ask yourself these questions: Where am I spending all of my time? Are coffee breaks taking up my time to complete tasks? Am I spending too much time on email?
  • Block off and prioritize your time. Schedule specific times for email, meetings and working on projects.

2. Work by a Window

Many studies have shown there is a strong correlation between workplace daylight exposure and office workers’ sleep, activity and quality of life. So, move your office to a window to let those sun rays boost your creativity and energy!

3. Silence Isn’t Golden

We all realize that noise can be a distraction, but complete silence can be as well. A moderate amount of ambient noise, also referred to as background noise, can actually enhance productivity and performance. If your brain is fried, know it is perfectly acceptable to take a quick break to talk to your employees or grab a cup of coffee. It will improve your mood and prevent mistakes!

4. Brain Food

“Breakfast is the most important meal of the day,” “You are what you eat,” we’ve heard these sayings a million times. Foods containing omega-3 fatty acids and folic acid are known to improve learning and memory. Change your eating habits and try eating these items instead!

Omega-3 Foods

  • Enriched Eggs (look for a carton that says enriched with health-promoting fatty acids)
  • Walnuts
  • Spinach
  • Oatmeal
  • Tuna

Folic Acid Foods

  • Oranges
  • Grapefruit
  • Avocado
  • Carrots
  • Broccoli

Why not kill two birds with one stone? If you choose to eat some of these foods, consider if any of them can be composted. Planting a garden can also improve your health and mood!

5. Try Not to Multitask

People think multitasking means you are being more productive and getting more things done. However, your brain can’t handle it. It’s only capable of working on no more than two tasks. There is a chance if you are working on more than two tasks you will make more errors.
