The holidays are coming up which means a lot of decorating around the house. You probably use the same decorations you had when you first bought your house. A great decoration for any holiday or daily use is a wreath. It adds the perfect touch to any door or wall. I’m here to show you how to add some flair to your wreaths by upcycling egg cartons into roses.
Supplies You Will Need:
- 2 Paper/Cardboard Egg Cartons
- 1 Wreath
- 1 Roll Burlap Ribbon
- Hot Glue Gun
Start by cutting apart the egg cartons. You will make the roses from the upright pieces that separate the eggs. The loose petals will be made from the remainder of the carton. Continue cutting the carton apart until you have several of the uprights separated.
Once you have cut the upright pieces apart, begin cutting them into petal shapes. An individual upright will create 4 petals. Use 3 uprights for each flower. Try cutting them in various depths and shape the petals in different forms.
Keep the base of the two layers of petals of the upright intact. For the inside portion, cut open the upright so it can be gathered tightly to form the center.
Here’s how to form the center
When you cut all 3 layers into petals use the hot glue gun to secure each one inside the other.
Tip: Bend the petals to give character to each flower.
Just Keep Layering…Just Keep Layering
You can cut more loose petals from the remainder of the egg carton to make the rose appear fuller. Depending on how many egg cartons you have and loose petals you cut will determine how many roses you create.
Once you have created your rose, it is time to place it on your wreath. Attach your rose to the burlap by using a hot glue gun. Try to place it into a tight cluster.
Tip: Add bunches of dried grass or dried flowers in between the roses for more flair.
Now you have yourself an egg carton rose wreath. Feel free to paint your roses and apply them to other projects such as picture frames, mirrors and much more.
