What Happens to My Dumpster Trash When it Reaches the Landfill?
Once our customer's trash has been sorted at either a recycling center or a transfer station, it makes its way to a landfill. If you're picturing a giant open pit of garbage, you probably haven't seen a modern landfill. Current regulations and building standards have cleaned up a lot of dumping grounds throughout the U.S.
Today, landfills are required to be built with several layers of protective materials to prevent contaminants from seeping into the ground. These materials include a plastic liner that covers the entire base of the site. On top of that there is a layer of clay that can absorb any contaminated rainwater. The clay then forms the base for a layer of gravel which provides a stable foundation for the garbage above.
Once a landfill starts accepting waste, either from dump trucks or roll off containers, the garbage is deposited in what are called “cellsâ€. These are individual areas of the landfill that are set aside for all of the trash that comes to the site. Organizing the trash into cells helps keep the gradual buildup of waste under control, without resulting in huge differences in elevation.
At the end of each day the garbage is covered in a layer of topsoil which helps contain odors and keeps insects away. After that, the garbage is left to decay over time. This process will far outlast the lifespan of the landfill, which is why these sites are designed to last for centuries.
That is the short version of a long story about where your dumpster trash goes. If you wish to know more, just ask our customer service representatives when you order your dumpster rental in Lake Charles. They know just about everything when it comes to trash!
How Much Space Should I Set Aside for My Construction Dumpster?
In general, our dumpster rentals in Lake Charles occupy an area roughly 22 ft. in length and 8 ft. in width. You should plan on having a space bigger than these dimensions open for your delivery. The ideal setup would be to clear your driveway or parking area of all objects. This includes cars, poles, and miscellaneous yard items.
A completely cleared driveway ensures that our drivers have enough maneuvering space for rolling your container off the truck. And we also don't want to put a dent in your car! If there is anything we should know about the way your driveway is set up, let us know. We can work out any problems before we deliver your dumpster.
