Do I need a permit to rent a dumpster?
Yes, you need a Temporary Dumpster/Cart Permit to keep your bin in your driveway, construction site or in the public right-of-way. You must have your permit before we deliver your dumpster rental. Either display your permit in the window of your property or post it on your roll off container so it’s easily visible from the street. Contact the city of Reading’s Building Trades Division for more details. Reach out to our team if you have more questions about permits or dumpster placement.
Should I cover my dumpster rental?
You must cover roll off dumpsters in the city when not in use, between the hours of 6 p.m. and 6 a.m., and during high-wind conditions. We recommend also covering your bin during rain or snow to keep water from pooling inside, which can increase the weight. This is particularly true if you’re tossing dirt, carpet or other absorbent materials. Going over your roll off container’s weight limit will result in a fee. The easiest way to cover your bin is with a tarp secured by straps or bungee cords.

4. Schedule your pickup. To ensure pickup and avoid a trip fee, your dumpster must be accessible and only contain approved debris piled no higher than the sidewalls.
