How Many Dumpsters Do I Need for a Demolition Job?

The number of dumpsters you’ll need depends on what type of demolition debris you’re tossing and how much. Each dumpster has a weight limit in tons that you can hit quickly, especially if you’re tossing heavy materials like concrete, brick and block. Additionally, any dumpster must weigh no more than 10 tons for us to haul it on the street legally. Before you rent a 30 yard or 40 yard dumpster, consider that you’ll only be able to fill it partway with heavy debris.

Use our dumpster weight calculators to estimate the tonnage of your load. Your account manager will review with you and recommend the right dumpster to help you avoid extra fees.

10 Yard Dumpster

A 10 yard dumpster is ideal for small demolition projects, like a residential wall demo or commercial roof removal. We also recommend them for getting rid of heavy debris, like brick and asphalt.

20 Yard Dumpster

For lighter demolition projects or cleaning out an apartment complex or office prior to demo, our 20 yard dumpster is a popular rental size. It’s also great for getting rid of landscaping waste and roofing shingles.

30 Yard Dumpster

If you’ve got a shed or barn to take down, or a partial home demolition, consider renting a 30 yard dumpster. They provide plenty of room for lots of plaster, drywall and wood.

40 Yard Dumpster

Our 40 yard bins are great for large projects, but remember that all dumpsters have a maximum weight of 10 tons to be street legal. Consider a 40 yard dumpster for projects like office space demolitions where you’ll be throwing away lighter materials.
